EPA announced February 3, 2011, that it will work with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Transportation to help communities achieve “sustainable planning” through the Sustainable Communities Building Blocks Program. The agencies will participate with communities selected for the program in a day-long session designed to provide assistance in implementing sustainable planning goals. The session will focus on implementation tools such as zoning code reviews, “walkability” assessments, parking policy analysis, climate action planning, and commuter benefits. Application instructions for the program are available through February 23.
