We recently issued an e-update regarding the construction opportunities presented by the new MoD Framework Agreements (please click here to read the article in full). In addition to the Frameworks, as part of its wider Next Generation Estate Contracts (NGEC) programme, the MoD has announced a single contract for the provision of military housing and related services.
The new National Housing Prime contract will provide repairs and maintenance to more than 49,000 UK military homes, grounds maintenance, and housing construction projects up to a value of £3.93m. Currently under consideration is extension of the scope of the contract to international housing, internet facilities, relocation support services and the provision of furniture and fittings.
The contract is expected to be awarded in late 2012, and will run from April 2013, with the option to extend by a further five years.
The MoD are looking for a prime contractor to take single-point responsibility for managing and delivering all of the above services, with any interested sub-contractors being invited to an industry day where they can meet with the prime contractors participating in the PQQ. Given the range of services required, the scope for involvement for a wide range of both large and small entities in the construction and facilities management industries is clear. The deadline for expressions of interest is 17 March 2011.
For further details, the contract tender notice was issued on 9 February 2011 and can be found in the Defence Contracts Bulletin (for those who subscribe to DCB) or more widely on Tenders Electronic Daily.
