The changes to the registration procedure for foreign nationals at their places of stay, which were introduced by Federal Law No. 42-FZ, dated 20 March 2011, came into force on 25 March 2011.
In particular, the definition of a "foreign national’s place of stay" – which now also includes other premises, institutions or organisations in which a foreign national finds himself/herself – has been reversed to permit, as was previously the case, the registration of foreign employees at the addresses of the respective organisations where they work.
In addition, the procedure for the entry of foreign nationals into Russia has been simplified. The timeframe in which the registration procedure with the Federal Migration Service must be completed has been increased from three to seven working days. This is expected to ease the movement of foreign nationals within Russia, as they will now have more time for registration.
