Yesterday Chris Hart, DOE's manager of its Offshore Wind Program, said that within five years he hopes the first large-scale offshore wind farms will be operating in federal waters. According to BNA, Hart went on to say that there are a number of regulatory, commercial, and technological challenges that must be overcome before industrial scale wind farms will be installed in U.S. waters. Another DOE official noted that the United States must try to catch up with other countries' national programs for developing offshore wind projects.
