The Recycling Fund has reached its recycling targets and is to be cancelled, as the Government considers that its objective has been met.

The fund is financed by contributions from producers and importers of certain materials and packaging products. The money is used to provide grants or loans for projects aimed at collecting, treating or extracting value from waste, or for research and development into new technologies for separating or extracting value from waste.

The Government proposes that the producers and importers should continue to bear the costs of waste collection and recycling. They will be required to establish joint organisations for collecting separated waste directly from villages and towns, and then extracting value from it.
