The California Assembly has reportedly passed legislation (A.B. 1319) that would prohibit the use of bisphenol A (BP A) in baby bottles and spill-proof cups for young children. Beginning July 2013, the bill would prohibit the manufacture, sale and distribution of bottles and cups, containing 0.1 parts per billion BP A, intended for children ages 3 and younger. Approved by the state Senate on August 30, 2011, the bill now heads to California Governor Jerry Brown (D) for signature. Enactment of the law would make California the 11th state to ban the use of BP A in children’s products. See BNA Daily Environment Report, September 7, 2011.
