On September 10, 2014 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine issued its Resolution "On optimizing the  system of central executive authorities"25 (hereinafter, the Resolution) to establish the State  Energy Supervision Inspectorate of Ukraine (hereinafter, the State Energy Supervision  Inspectorate).

The State Energy Supervision Inspectorate’s activities will be directed and controlled by the  Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine through the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry. At the same time,  the State Energy Supervision Inspectorate is vested with the functions of implementing the state  policy for supervision (control) in the field of energy and heat supply.

It is noteworthy that in the Resolution does not state that the existing regulatory authorities in the energy sector (the State Inspectorate for Energy Supervision and the State Inspection for Operation of Power Plants and Networks) will be liquidated after the new authority is established.
