An insured was diagnosed with a heart illness in a clinic of the Social Insurance Institute (SII) in Colombia. The doctor ordered further medical examinations, but they were delayed for a year. Through insistence, the insured finally underwent surgery but died three days after the intervention. In light of the aforesaid, the Administrative Court ordered the SII to pay US$830 million by way of a fine due to the negligent, inefficient and irregular medical service provided to the insured.
