On April 18, 2011, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that attestation for the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program is now available through CMS’ web-based attestation system. The Medicare EHR Incentive Program provides incentive payments to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals that demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology. The attestation requirement is part of the meaningful use final rule issued by CMS in July.
The new CMS attestation webpage provides Medicare EHR Incentive Program participants with access to the attestation system and important information on attestation. Additionally, CMS has posted multiple resources on the web-based attestation page for eligible professionals and hospitals attempting to attest to meaningful use of EHR technology. Such resources include:
- Answers from CMS to some of the most commonly asked questions regarding attestation;
- Attestation user guides for eligible professionals and hospitals which provide step-by-step guidance on navigating the attestation system;
- A meaningful use attestation calculator, which allows applicants to determine if they meet all of the necessary measures to successfully demonstrate meaningful use and qualify for incentives; and
- Access to the EHR Incentive Program electronic specifications for clinical quality measures.
