Southwest Airlines was recently fined $200,000 for airing deceptive television advertisements. The ads, which aired last October, promised flights from Atlanta to New York, Chicago and Los Angeles for $59 — but the airline didn't make any seats available at that price. Southwest stated it would honor the $59 fare for customers who called the airline’s reservation center and asked for the deal.

Companies that use marketing campaigns to advertise sales, discounts, deals and other special offers should be careful to ensure that they are following through with the bargain on the product or service side.
