On April 27, the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 14-9 to advance Dr. Scott Gottlieb’s nomination to be the Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. Democratic Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse, R.I., and Michael Bennet, Colo., voted in favor of the nomination, while Ranking Member Sen. Patty Murray, Wash., and the rest of the Committee Democrats opposed the nomination.

On May 8, the Senate voted 57-41 to invoke cloture on Dr. Gottlieb’s nomination, clearing the way for a full Senate confirmation vote.
