GLAXOSMITHKLINE BRIBERY ALLEGATIONS

GSK is reportedly investigating allegations of bribery by employees in Iraq.  It has been accused of hiring government-employed doctors and pharmacists in Iraq to act as paid sales representatives for the company.  According to reports by the Wall Street Journal, a whistleblower familiar with the company’s Middle East operations alerted GSK to the alleged misconduct. GSK confirmed that it is investigating whether there has been any improper conduct in Iraq and that investigations are ongoing.   

EGYPT FINANCE MINISTER DETAINED IN FRANCE

Youssef Boutros Gali was arrested in Paris on 14 April 2014 after arriving from London. Interpol had an international warrant out for his arrest over corruption charges relating to his time in Hosni Mubarak's government in Egypt. In June 2011, a Cairo court convicted Ghali in absentia and sentenced him to 30 years in prison for corruption and abusing state and private assets. It has been reported that the Interior Ministry in Cairo will seek to have him extradited to Egypt.
