The Government has announced “ambitious” and “wide-ranging” changes to family friendly employment practices. Full details will be announced later in the year but the changes will include:

  • The Additional Paternity Leave Regulations 2010 will remain in force as an interim measure. This means that fathers of children due on or after 3 April 2011 will be able to take up to six months of the mother’s untaken maternity leave  
  • The right to request fl exible working will be extended to all parents of children under 18 from April 2011  
  • A consultation on extending the right to request fl exible working to all employees  
  • A consultation on a new system of fl exible parental leave designed to encouraged “shared parenting”.
