The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has released its first Global Insurance Market Report. As well as identifying important developments in the global insurance market generally, the report details developments specifically affecting life, non-life and reinsurers. The information contained in the report was gathered from both public and confidential sources, including a sample of 20 global insurers and reinsurers, and confidential information submitted to the IAIS by 48 large global reinsurers. While the report acknowledges that the (re)insurance industry has been affected by the global financial crisis, it points out that the industry has borne the impact well (showing improved market performance since the decline in 2008 and being better capitalised than at the beginning of the financial crisis).
