Peabody Energy and GreatPoint Energy, a venture capital firm out of Cambridge, MA, reached a deal late last week on a coal-to-natural gas facility in Wyoming. Despite the plant not being used for electrical generation, it is still likely to include carbon capture and sequestration. In a prepared statement Peabody's senior VP Rick A. Bowen said, "Using GreatPoint Energy's technology to turn coal into natural gas while capturing carbon will provide a clean coal-based alternative to expensive natural gas imports, while using Peabody's industry-best reserve position."
