The Statewide Health Coordinating Council (the “SHCC”) held a meeting on May 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. The following is a summary of the proceedings.

  1. Report from Hospital Committee The SHCC voted to adopt the recommendation of the Hospital Committee to form a study committee to evaluate the current inpatient psychiatric services need methodology under the State Health Plan. With the SHCC’s approval, the SHCC Inpatient Psych Commission will meet periodically to research and evaluate issues relating to psychiatric care throughout Alabama and will report back to the SHCC with a recommendation for a new need methodology for the State Health Plan by the fourth quarter SHCC meeting.
  2. Discussion of State Health Plan § 410-2-5-.04 - Plan Revisions Procedures The SHCC voted to approve the proposed revisions to the rule for publication for public comment. The proposed changes to the State Health Plan revisions procedure will impose time frames in which an opponent to a proposed modification of the State Health Plan can file opposition. We anticipate that the proposed changes in the regulation will be considered at the next SHCC meeting.
