On August 17, US EPA released for public review and comment its "Peer Review Plans" for risk assessments on the following seven "work plan chemicals" for 2012:

  • Antimony and Antimony Compounds
  • HHCB (1,3,4,6,7,8 - Hexahydro- 4,6,6,7,8,8, -hexamethylcyclopenta[g]-2-benzopyran)
  • Long-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins
  • Medium-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins
  • Methylene Chloride
  • N-Methylpyrrolidone
  • Trichloroethylene

According to US EPA, the plans describe the overall "focus of the risk assessment being conducted on each chemical, indicate that peer reviewers will be selected and how the peer review will be conducted, and provide the time line for reviews."  US EPA plans to publish a notice in the Federal Register when external review drafts of the assessments become available to allow for a 60-day public comment period on those drafts before the formal peer review begins.  US EPA also plans to allow public comments on the drafts during "teleconference panel review meetings."
