The Government has announced a review of spectrum policy arrangements. The last review of the spectrum framework was conducted in 2002 by the Productivity Commission.  The current framework faces increasing pressure to keep up with technological innovations and demands to cater for rapidly changing market and consumer preferences. The purpose of the review is to identify what policy and regulatory changes are needed to make the framework more simple, flexible, efficient and consistent and to ensure that it delivers on its full potential and improves productivity.

The review will look at the operation of and interaction between theRadiocommunications Act 1992 and other radiocommunications legislation as well as the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 and theAustralian Communications and Media Authority Act 2005.
