On October 12th, the Treasury Department announced the designation of Iranian commercial airline Mahan Air pursuant to Executive Order 13224 for providing financial, material and technological support to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force ("IRGC-QF"). As a result of the designation, U.S. persons are prohibited from engaging in commercial or financial transactions with Mahan Air and any assets it may hold under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen. On October 11th, the Treasury Department announced the designation of five individuals, including four senior IRGC-QF officers connected to a plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States, Adel Al-Jubeir, while he was in the U.S. and to carry out follow-on attacks against other countries' interests inside the U.S. and in another country. As part of the action, the Treasury Department also designated the individual responsible for arranging the assassination plot on behalf of the IRGC-QF. As a result of the designations, U.S. persons are prohibited from engaging in transactions with the named individuals, and any assets they may hold in the U.S. are frozen.
