Finally, following additional hires by DDMAC and increased agency resources, the division may be reorganized and renamed. In a few months, a new Office of Prescription Drug Promotion (OPDP) may be established with subdivisions for (1) health care professional (HCP) materials and (2) consumer materials. The Office of Medical Policy, under which DDMAC currently resides, will reportedly expand its medical policy functions, taking on increased surveillance activities and responsibilities for Consumer Medication Information (e.g., Medication Guides, simplified package inserts, etc.). Under this proposal, the HCP and consumer subdivisions of the new OPDP would be able to operate more quickly and consistently in their reviews of materials and responses to policy questions. This restructuring will be subject to the approval of the Commissioner's Office and agency human resources officials.
