A bill (S2241) introduced on October 16, 2008 would direct the Council on Gender Parity in Labor and Education to implement programs to eliminate pay disparity between men and women. The bill revises the Council’s duties to include: conducting studies and promoting research to develop the means to correct the conditions leading the pay disparity; providing this information to employers, labor organizations, professional associations, educational institutions, the media, and the general public; developing guidelines to enable employers to evaluate jobs based on objective criteria; and establishing a statewide award for pay equity in the workplace.
