The AFM has published its annual report which covers supervisory conduct during 2008. The AFM has taken more regulatory measures against financial institutions during 2008 when compared to 2007. In its annual report the AFM states that financial service providers should have more consideration for the interests of their clients. The AFM also considers that the credit crisis shows that professional investors need more protection relating to structured products. The AFM also confirms its intention to play a part in strengthening the European regulatory regime and that it believes that the proposals in the de Larosière report is a good starting point for further harmonisation of rules and a more structured approach to European supervision.
