Insurance Europe recently published comments on a number of legislative proposals made by the European Commission. On 9 October 2014, it outlined why certain proposed revisions to the Shareholders' Rights Directive would not reflect the nature of insurers' activities in their capacity as institutional investors. On 13 October 2014, Insurance Ireland commented that certain aspects of the European Commission's proposal for a Regulation on reporting and transparency of securities financing transactions are unworkable, costly and unnecessarily burdensome for insurers. On 22 October 2014, Insurance Europe published a press release outlining objections to the European Commission's proposed General Data Protection Regulation Directive. Insurance Europe highlighted that certain aspects of the proposed Regulation (including the right to be forgotten) may make it difficult for insurers to identify potential insurance fraudsters and prevent insurance fraud.
