On 16 July 2014, the FCA published the findings of its thematic review of price comparison website (PCWs) for private motor, home and travel insurance. The review focused on whether consumers were able to buy general insurance products through a PCW that were suitable for their individual needs and that met their expectations. The main findings of the report were that PCWs: (a) did not present sufficient product information in a clear and consistent manner; (b) did not make clear their role in the distribution of the product and did not have business models aligned to the best interests of their customers; and (c) have failed to fully implement 2011 guidance for PCWs. The FCA is providing individual feedback to the PCWs reviewed but expects all PCWs to take action on the specific areas where failings have been identified. The existing guidance and rules for PCWs are set out in an annex to the publication.
