7.2.2009 The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) recently published a report that reviews issuance and trading activity for the new Build America Bonds, which provide state and local governments with a new method of financing public projects with a federal subsidy. Municipalities around the country began issuing Build America Bonds in April 2009 after Congress enacted the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The MSRB’s report reviews the issuance and trading activity for the new Bonds, including identifying which municipalities have taken advantage of the lower borrowing costs made possible by the program. Issuance and trade data for Build America Bonds are all publicly available on the MSRB’s Electronic Municipal Market Access (EMMA) Web site at www.emma.msrb.org.
