The Budapest Protocol (the Protocol) provides a framework for the cooperation of competent authorities in the implementation of Directive 2003/41/EC on the activities and supervision of institutions for occupational retirement provision (IORPs) in relation to the supervision of IORPs that operate cross- border.

It sets out the agreement between competent authorities to cooperate in the supervision of cross-border activities of IORPs.

It was agreed that the Protocol would be reviewed after two years to reflect the notification and supervisory experience gained from the application of the Protocol to practical and real life cross-border cases.

The Committee of European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Supervisors (CEIOPS) has now published its consultation on the revised texts of the Protocol.

Comments are invited by 15 June 2009.
