The Dutch telecoms regulator, OPTA, has announced that no additional internet safety measures will be required from ISPs in relation to its review of internet safety requirements (click here to view our report on this issue from November 2007). The Telecom regulator has come to the conclusion that many ISPs have already implemented the proposed measures and therefore OPTA will instead encourage the ISPs to establish, based on self regulation, a 'quality mark' for Internet safety. The Dutch Consumers Association is disappointed and intends to lobby the Dutch Parliament for stricter enforcement of Internet safety regulations.
