The Australian and New Zealand Productivity Commissions have released a discussion paper setting out preliminary recommendations for strengthening trans-Tasman economic relations. The release of the discussion paper follows a scoping study carried out by the Commissions earlier this year, commissioned to mark the 30th anniversary of Closer Economic Relations (CER).

The Commissions' final report will be submitted to the two Prime Ministers by 1 December and the findings will inform the leaders' meeting scheduled for early 2013.

Submissions on the discussion document are due on 18 October 2012. The Commissions will be holding roundtables and other consultations in coming weeks. The discussion document and more information on how to make a submission can be found here.
