Alberta has launched a new incentive program for commercial premises interested in retrofitting in order to install energy-efficient lighting. The potential rebates vary from $37,500 for warehouses to $375,000 for office spaces, the restaurants, multi-use residential buildings and retail locations each allocated specific caps per company. The program is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and Alberta Minister of the Environment Rob Renner noted that “Lighting accounts for approximately 50 per cent of Alberta businesses’ annual electricity use”.
