EPA recently announced a two-day public workshop to solicit recommendations on how the agency can strengthen regulations pertaining to overflows from sanitary sewers and heavy rainfall. 76 Fed. Reg. 35,215 (6/16/11). EPA’s Office of Wastewater Management will conduct the workshop in Washington, D.C., on July 14-15, 2011.
EPA seeks specific feedback on whether and to what extent National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits should be developed to address (i) the process for notifying and documenting sanitary sewer overflows; (ii) aspects of capacity, management and operations at publicly owned treatment plants; (iii) permitting requirements for municipal satellite collection systems; and (iv) any circumstances when sanitary sewer overflows should be allowed.
