Last week, in advance of this weekend's meeting of G7 finance ministers and central bankers, the EU announced that it will hold a meeting to address "the steps taken by the individual EU Member States to implement the Recovery Plan and to shield themselves from the impacts of the financial crisis." The meeting will take place in Brussels on March 1, 2009 and an additional meeting will take place in Prague in May. The Czech Prime Minister, who currently holds the EU Presidency and called for the meeting, stated that because of the "growing pressure to adopt protectionist measures it is of particular necessity to adhere to the rules of the internal market and fair competition."
