The energy minister for the Northwest Territories said he is confident that both huge gas pipelines – the Mackenzie and Alaska projects - will be built and will supply North American markets. He stated that there has been significant progress on the Mackenzie project. A key regulatory report is expected in November, and five of the six required agreements with aboriginal groups have been reached. The minister reasoned that the concerns surrounding carbon emissions and climate change should give both Arctic gas pipelines a major boost towards development.
