The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) launched Project TransmiT to review transmission charges for gas, electricity and associated connection arrangements in the UK.

Project TransmiT will be an open, comprehensive and objective review of the charging regime, seeking extensive stakeholder input, independent academic reports, international experience and alternative models. The review will also consider other practical and commercial difficulties faced by generators when connecting to a network.

The focus of the review is on the promotion of a low carbon energy future and security of supply whilst maintaining control over transmission charges. It follows recent Government proposals to reform access arrangements. Initial proposals are expected in Spring 2011.
