The CBP has announced its plan to begin construction of the "virtual fence" along the U.S./Mexico border. The goal of this construction is to cover the entire length of the border within five years by building electronically-equipped towers that would detect drug and illegal border crossing activities. The electronic monitoring should replace physical fences and barriers currently in use.
