Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), the agency responsible for regulating the country’s banking sector, has fined CTBC Bank Co. Ltd. (formerly known as Chinatrust Commercial Bank) NT$4 million (around $134,000) for a security breach that allowed unauthorized persons to retrieve customers’ confidential personal information.  The FSC determined that CTBC Bank violated Taiwan’s Banking Act and Personal Data Protection Act. The FSC imposed the fine under the Banking Act, which sets out a higher range of fines.
