China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) recently developed an Intellectual Property Customs Protection System based on the Intellectual Property Customs Protection Recordation System. The purpose of this system is to help IP holders complete customs recordation with the General Administration of Customs (GAC), and to ensure that the information on record is more accurate and reliable. The new system will be launched on March 1.

The new recording system will be digital:

  1. IP holders may submit online applications to the GAC for renewal, amendment and cancellation of their recordation;
  2. IP holders must register for an account prior to using the new system; and
  3. In order to ensure the accuracy of Customs patent protection, IP holders may yearly submit the payment certificate for the annuities of the patent they record with the GAC.(From SIPO)
