The EC has opened a consultation over plans to simplify its merger regime and reduce the number of deals that require a lengthy standard notification.  Under the proposals, mergers comprising up to 20 percent market share will use the simplified notification process, and vertical markets mergers with a 30 percent share will be eligible for the simplified procedure.  The current level is set at 15 percent market share, so the proposed rule changes would see up to 70 percent of all notified mergers qualifying for the simplified procedure.
