The National Minimum Wage Regulations 1999 (Amendment) Regulations 2010 come into force on 1 October and will introduce the following changes:

  • the age from which the standard rate becomes payable falls from 22 to 21;
  • a new minimum hourly wage will be introduced at the rate of £2.50 per hour for apprentices who are employed under a contract of apprenticeship or who are engaged under certain Government arrangements in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; and
  • the key hourly rates will rise as follows:
