The Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) plans to seek further cooperation with the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) by having a Cross-Strait Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) program.

Although the number of patent and trademark applications received by SIPO is among the highest in the world, patent examination at SIPO is much faster than that at TIPO. SIPO is mainly contributed to by its cooperative agreements on the expedition of examination with the cooperation of multiple countries and sufficient manpower.

The TIPO has already developed a PPH with patent offices in the US, Japan, and Spain. In view of the high ratio of simultaneous filing of patent or trademark applications across Taiwan and China, it is hoped that TIPO’s workload can be further alleviated if the two offices can cooperate on a PPH program.
