The Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) has initiated public consultations on its proposed ban on the cosmetic use of pesticides in the province. The MOE will be accepting comments until February 17, 2008 on (i) the scope of the proposed ban; (ii) whether the sale of cosmetic pesticides should also be banned; (iii) whether pesticides used for agriculture or managed forests should be exempt; and (iv) the timing to phase in the ban. After reviewing these comments, the MOE reportedly expects to introduce draft legislation on the matter this spring.
