In the 2005 Pre-Budget Report the Government announced the UK unclaimed assets scheme. Under this scheme banks and building societies would be able to transfer money held in dormant accounts for reinvestment in the community whilst providing account holders with a right of repayment. To facilitate this scheme the Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Bill has been introduced in Parliament.
