On 30 June 2009, CEIOPS published a report on possible solutions for future European regulation of insurance guarantee schemes (IGSs). The report was developed in a short timeframe (referred to in last month's Tracker) and CEIOPS has stressed in its letter to the European Commission that further consideration and analysis is needed as well as the involvement of the insurance industry and consumers. The Report includes 13 recommendations upon which CEIOPS members have reached consensus. These include the trigger for interventions of an IGS and the scope of insurance classes and claimants to be covered. In areas where agreement has not been reached the report helpfully sets out the advantages and disadvantages of the various options.
