The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society ("HIMSS") published a definition of "meaningful use" yesterday. HIMSS created definitions for "meaningful users of certified EHR technologies" and "meaningful use for hospitals" as outlined in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The organization sent the definitions to David Blumenthal, the National Coordinator for HIT and Charlene Frizerra, Acting Commissioner of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

HIMSS is a health care membership organization focused entirely on promoting the use of IT and management systems within the health care system. HIMSS represents over 20,000 individuals and 350 corporate members.
