The Ministry of Justice has recently published its Judicial and Court Statistics for 2009. These show a substantial rise in High Court claims issued in the Royal Courts of Justice in London, though High Court claims nationally were down slightly. Points of interest include:
- There were 4,887 claims issued in the Chancery Division in London, a 30% increase compared to 3,779 in 2008. This included a significant rise in professional negligence claims, business fraud claims and partnership disputes.
- There were 5,694 claims issued in the Queen’s Bench Division in London, up 10% from the 5,173 issued in 2008.
- In the Technology and Construction Court there were 528 claims issued, up 45% compared with 366 in 2008.
- The Commercial Court saw a 25% increase with 1,256 claims issued in 2009, up from 1,003 in 2008.
