Despite Dodd-Frank’s attempt to encourage whistleblowers to come forward through monetary awards, the SEC report reveals that, of the 3,001 whistleblower reports made, only one award has yet been paid, for $45,000 (although this figure is likely to increase), in the program’s first year. The same report reveals that the largest number of whistleblower tips from any one non-US country originated from the UK (74 in total). California accounted for the largest number of tips by US State (435), followed by New York (246) and Florida (202).
