The Tánaiste has indicated that publication of the Companies Consolidation and Reform Bill is now expected during 2010. In her address to Seanad Eireann at the second stage of the Companies (Amendment) Bill 2009 (which introduces urgent measures to strengthen the powers of the Director of Corporate Enforcement), the Tánaiste made reference to the "wide ranging analysis of current company law which is well advanced" and confirmed that the Bill, which will contain 1,250 sections, will be published next year.

It is expected that the Companies Consolidation and Reform Bill will introduce many significant changes to Irish company law including a radical reform of the structure and constitutional makeup of the existing Irish private limited company.

The Tánaiste said that to remain fit for purpose, Company Law has to be updated and refined on a regular basis in response to dynamic changes in the Irish and international corporate environment.
