The Congressional Research Service released a finding last wee that the United Statesʼ ability to build a manufacturing base for photovoltaic solar equipment is in question following expiration of a number of federal subsidies and because of increased competition from natural gas-fired power plants. The report, U.S. Solar Photovoltaic Manufacturing: Industry Trends, Global Competition, Federal Support, also predicted that electricity from PV will become less competitive, and cited the closure of at least ten domestic solar manufacturing facilities since 2011 as a contributing factor.
