Last week, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced it had finalized a $535 million loan guarantee for Solyndra, Inc. Solyndra designs and manufactures photovoltaic panels that provide clean renewable energy for commercial rooftops. The loan guarantee will allow Solyndra to build a new manufacturing plant in Fremont, California. It is estimated that the construction of the plant will create 3,000 jobs, while the daily operations of the facility will create 1,000 jobs. The plant will allow the company to fulfill a backlog of over $2 billion.
