As Congress returned from the August recess with the announcement that Sens. Boxer and Kerry would not be introducing climate change legislation until later this month, Sen. Bingaman has decided to potentially move forward with a slate of climate change hearings. The chairman of the Energy & Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on September 15 to explore costs and price volatility in the energy sector that may result from a cap and trade program. The committee is also preparing to hold a number of other climate change related hearings later in September. Bingaman hopes to complete all climate hearings before health care takes over the Senate schedule.
