On December 7, 2009, Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) sent letters to more than 30 disease and advocacy organizations asking them to provide an accounting of funding they receive from pharmaceutical and medical device companies, as well as foundations established by those companies and the insurance industry. The information requested includes the names of companies, amount of funding, dates and reason(s) that the funding was provided. Organizations to which these letters were sent include the American Medical Association, the Heart Rhythm Society, National Organization for Rare Disorders, the American Hospital Association, the American Diabetes Association and the American Dental Association. The letters requested that the information be provided by December 21.
